![]() I've seen a lot, and trust me when I say a lot, of djent tones on YouTube and what not, and I've seen not one video that sounded like what going through the Axe FX sounds like. I think the reference track is being processed through an Axe FX. And yes, the playing & pick attack is 95% key to what makes a good djent tone. Typically, I'd cut anything off from 100Hz down to make room for the bass but the reference track does seem to have a bit of thump to it. Its 3am but heres a quick AB of your clip. The riff was only to demonstrate the tone, it wasn't serious by any means lol. Your riff is more nu-metal sounding to me, more Limp Bizkit than Periphery. The playing is the biggest difference though. Try a tube screamer pedal from tse or Mercuriall instead of the compressor. Should get you a lot closer to your reference tone. Then you can boost that gap at 750 and even put a little more oomph around 80-100hz. Maybe even getting rid of 250-300hz a little. There's also a weird resonance going around 900hz. For recording metal especially, amp sim plugins are as popular as ever with guitar players in the heavy genres. Id start by rolling off around 2khz and up, there's too much treble right now. Your tone doesnt actually sound that bad. Seymour Duncan seems to be killing it right now with the djent crowd. If you really wanted to you could replace the stock pickups with something a little more current.
